Significance of Mundan Sanskar in Toddlers

The Mundan Sanskar (or Chudakarana) is the eighth of the sixteen sacred Samskaras of Sanatan Dharma. Shaving off the toddler's birth hair is performed to symbols of leaving past-life karmic impressions behind. From a physiological standpoint, infants undergo intense teething which triggers heat in the cranial region, leading to headaches and restlessness. Shaving the head stimulates circulation, provides a cooling effect, and enables the brain nerves to grow beautifully. It also invites healthy subsequent hair development with high density.
